1. Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo’s fast-rising pop music career is quite intriguing. Not up to a year since her music contract was signed with Interscope record 2020, Olivia has gone to produce her Spotify record-breaking single, “Driver’s License” and released four more singles, with a big album debut, Sour.
It looks like the year has just begun for the new pop star as she hit single, “Driver’s License” earned her the award for Song Of The Year as she also bagged two more Moon Men awards as Best New Artist and Push Performance of the year at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. Still, in the mood for celebration, the award-winning singer stepped into the 2021 MET Gala on September 12, marking her debut appearance at the event.
2. Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish has continually made her mark as one of the very best in the league of young artists in pop stardom. Earlier in June, Billie’s name had made rounds on the internet resulting from her astounding new look, gracing the front cover of the Vogue Magazine. A month later in July, Billie ushered in her second album, Happier Than Ever which earned her Grammy’s Award of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Record of the Year at the 2021 Grammys, summing up her Grammy’s in seven awards.
Billie has yet again proved her professional excellence MTV VMAs as she took home two awards for the night, Video for Good and Best Latin Video with Rosalia.
3. Dua Lipa
With the release of her sophomore album, Future Nostalgia, British singer and songwriter Dua Lipa had made groundbreaking Spotify records for the most-streamed album in a day for a British female artist, globally, in the United States and the United Kingdom! The album had broken out in an exciting rush as it got a grand welcome, and recorded over 3 billion streams. By February, the singer has stepped up on her ladder of fame with her another accolade, the Guinness World Record for the most monthly listeners on Spotify. With talks of an upcoming album, we can only imagine the exciting rush it would get on its arrival after the high commercial success of its predecessor.
K-pop singer and rap star, Lalisa Manobal, born Pranpriya Manobal, made the title of the most searched female earlier in April 2021. Rising to stardom as a member of the Korean girl group, Blackpink, Lisa released her debut solo album, Lalisa on September 10. The anticipated album had received over 700,000 preorders and had earned Lisa the record of the highest number of preorders for female solo artists in Korean pop music. The album successfully made over 300,000 sales and also made a record on YouTube, hitting 10 million views in 90 minutes on the first day of its release.
5. Doja Cat
Following her award-winning performance of “Say So” at the Grammy Awards in March 2021 has increasingly become the grand year for the pop star, Doja Cat, as she made the release of her hugely successful album, Planet Her in June. For her latest win in 2021, Doja Cat made the record of the third black woman to host as her debut her very first hosting act at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2021. So far, the year has cheered the Doja on, as she won her lastest award for Best Collaboration at the event.
6. Taylor Swift
With a long-standing career as a country-pop and rock singer, Taylor has made record-breaking releases which have kept her up high on the popularity ladder. When she dropped her latest album release, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in April 2021, the album broke the record of making No. 1 on iTunes in only 5 minutes and went on to top the lists on Apple Music charts while grabbing the No. 1 position on Billboard 200 making it her ninth number one.
Fans and Listeners await the release of another re-recorded version of her album, Red which is set to drop in on November 19 as Red (Taylor’s Version).
7. Megan Thee Stallion
After her big win at the 2021 Annual Grammy Awards as the Best Female Rapper to win Best New Artist in more than 20 years, Megan Thee Stallion stormed in with her latest single, “Thot Shit”. With a grand performance of the single at the 2021 BET Awards and other appearances, Megan took home the highest number of awards. She bagged four awards including, Best Female Hip Hop Artist, co-won Best Collaboration and Video of the Year with Cardi B, and finally, the Viewers’ Choice Awards. 8. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande had an early career start with her appearance in Musical 13 that was performed in 2008. However, her story of fame will be incomplete without a mention of her ‘Cat Valentine’ role in the Nickelodeon series, Sam and Cat, and Victorious. Today, the beautiful teen idol is popular for her array of talents in acting and her pop superstar prowess. She also ranks third on Billboard’s Music Awards for Top female artists and has her albums certified as platinum on the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
9. Selena Gomez
Texas-born Selena Gomez is also one of the top music artists who made their debut entertainment career in acting. She had her first acting appearance on the popular kids’ show Barney and Friends and stepped up to appearing in the Disney series, Wizards of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana as a teenager. After Selena made her music debut with her pop band, Selena & the Scene in 2009, she has moved further to releasing three albums with the group. In 2021, Selena has recorded the release of their successful solo albums and numerous records that have had millions in sales.
From being a former gymnast, Solána Imani Rowe, popularly known as SZA, is now of the most famous women in pop stardom. She had her big career break in with the release of her debut studio album Ctrl in 2017 which made it to No. 1 on the R&B charts and by 2018, had sold over a million copies. Her more recent song releases including, “Joni”, “Nightbird”, and “I Hate You” have got her fans having new album ideas for the singer. It was sweet to watch how she gleefully got the newest addition to her Awards list at the MTV Video Music Awards as the Best Collaboration for the song, “Kiss Me More”, alongside Doja Cat.
11. Camila Cabello
24-year old Camila Cabello also makes our list of the top most popular female singers of the year. Camila had career beginnings as a member of the Fifth Harmony girl group she auditioned with at the 2012 X Factor in the United States. The release of her debut single, “Crying in the Club” in 2017 marked her official solo artist career after her several song collaborations while she was still in the girl group and after she left in 2016.
By 2018, Camilla released her debut album, Camila which made a straight hit at a U.S number one, after her “Havana” single had earlier made similar success in multiple countries outside and was also named Spotify’s most-streamed song ever by a female artist. The singer has confirmed that she has a new album coming up later in the year after the release of her single, “Don’t Go Yet” in June 2021.
12. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is yet another American singer and actress that we’ve got on the list. Although their name might not ring a bell to you, they have been on the entertainment scene since 2002, when 1992-born was featured in Barney and Friends. As early as 2008, Demi Lovato had dropped her debut album, Don’t Forget and it made its way straight to No. 2 on Billboard 200. Its successor, Here We Go Again made an impressive comeback as it secured the position of No. 1 on the U.S Billboard charts.
Years later in 2021, Lovato has got seven successful albums and multiple film features like her latest release, Demi Lovato, Dancing with the Devil. Lovato is a five-time award winner of the People’s Choice Awards, an MTV VMAs award, Billboard awards, and two Grammy nominations among others. 15. Ava Max
27-year old American singer and songwriter, Ava Max got her career breakthrough with her very first single, “Sweet but Psycho” which made several countries Billboard No. 1s and had over a billion streams on Spotify. It had a pace-setting figure as the other releases by Ava Max including her 2020 debut album, Heaven and Hell, making good listings on the Billboard charts. In June, Ava released her first single of the year, “Everything I Cry” and the song has joined her other releases amass billions of streams for her records.
