Rap music is like an outburst of energy. As if the singer has been compressing all his emotions for days and then all of a sudden releases it in words. This might not be the best explanation for rap music, but I think it’s as close as it gets.

From a social perspective, the hip-hop culture was cultivated in the Black community and they are still the flagbearers of many musical genres. But if you see, there’re plenty of white rappers as well. Even some of the most successful rappers are white. 1. Eminem

He is the “Rap God”. We all know that. If you have the slightest idea of rap music, you know there is no competition for Eminem. Even though he is far off from his prime days now, he still stands as a symbol of excellence and unmatched talent. Eminem’s debut album came out in 1996 named Infinite. He received the first Grammy in 1999 for The Slim Shady LP. The recipient of 15 Grammy awards and countless other awards, he single-handedly represented the average people. Eminem also appeared as the lead in a film named “8 Mile”, a widely popular musical drama. His songs painted the pictures of simple things in an incredible style that only he could do. The widely controversial singer is considered the best rapper of all time. 

2. Mac Miller

Mac Miller was one of the best too in the world of rap. From the young age of 15, he started performing rap. Rostrum Records picked him in 2010. In the same year, Mac released his first mixtape K.I.D.S. It was a success and gave his career a niche boost for the future. The very next year, he released his album Blue Slide Park — not only did it explode in the audience, but it also was the first debut album by an independent label to top the Billboard 200. Mac’s life wasn’t very long, as he died at the age of 26 due to drug od, but in his lifetime he had accomplished a lot of things. He released four albums in total, the last one Circles being posthumously released after his death in 2020.

3. Beastie Boys

Beastie Boys was a hip-hop band formed in the late ‘80s. In the early days of rap, they were pretty famous in the US. Beasty Boys team members, Mike D, MCA, AD Rock were known faces in the hip-hop community, They toured with Madonna in 1985. The band went on to become the first music entity to rank a rap album in the Billboard 200. Beastie Boys have achieved a lot of successes, including several platinum-certified albums, and were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

4. G-Easy

G-Easy is a popular rapper in the US. He started out as a record producer but soon went to the singing party to explore his talent. His first album These Things Happen was an instant success as it charted at number three on the Billboard 200. Since then, he has been consistently putting out great albums and singles, many of them make it to the Billboard charts often. G-Easy released the first single of his sixth album These Things Happen Too in 2021 with Chris Brown and Mark Morrison.

Machine Gun Kelly is one of the most notable hip-hop stars of the present time.  He has had success as a rapper and as a rockstar since he entered the industry in the early 2010s. Kelly’s first album, Lace Up instantly established him as something different and very promising as it peaked on number four in the Billboard 200. Some of his singles like “Wild Boy”, “Bad Things” are extremely popular. He has had his fair share of experiments in albums like Hotel Diablo (rap-rock) and Tickets to My Downfall (pop-punk).

6. Yelawolf

Yelawolf has a long history of struggle as it took him almost five years to get any sort of attention from anyone. After releasing a lot of mixtapes and EPs, he was finally seeing some success from his EP Truck Muzik. As a result, he got Interscope Records to sign a deal and released a modified version of his previously successful EP. After teaming up with Shady Records, he released his album Radioactive. It got him much more attention and got to 27th place on Billboard 200. Yelawolf released his sixth album Ghetto Cowboy in 2019.

7. Macklemore

Macklemore and his long-term partner Ryan Lewis worked together and tasted a lot of success. The duo went to have four Grammy awards and multiple other recognitions from different sources. Since Macklemore started working solo in 2017, almost all of his previous works and successes were in collaboration with Ryan. Their first album The Heist was a massive hit and captured second place in the Billboard 200. Macklemore’s second solo album Gemini came out in 2017, as the duo dissolved for some reason.

8. Jack Harlow

Jack Harlow is a fresh addition to the white rappers community. His first big hit came in 2020 when his single “What’s Poppin’” hit second place on Billboard Hot 100. Jack is under the umbrella of Atlantic records as he is in contract with Don Cannon and DJ Drama. He is also the co-founder of a musical collective named the Private Garden. The rapper released his first album That’s What They All Say in 2020 and secured fifth place on Billboard 200.

9. Lil Dicky

Lil Dicky is a very interesting character — a musician, comedian, actor. He has achieved so much success in music from the very beginning of his career. Dicky released his music video “Ex-Boyfriend” which brought him the initial attention he needed, as the song garnered 1 million views within 24 hours. His debut album was Professional Rapper released in 2015, it was a moderate success. His single “Freaky Friday” in collaboration with Chris Brown made him a familiar face on the international platforms as well. Dicky released a music video in 2019 that aimed to spread global awareness, legendary actor Leonardo DeCaprio, singer Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, and many more prominent stars lent their voice for the video.

10. Action Bronson

Action Bronson is a man with versatile talents, he is a rapper, chef, and TV show host. He has not one but two TV shows — The Untitled Action Bronson Show and Fuck and That’s Delicious. The latter is a food show. As a musician, his first release was a bunch of mixtapes in 2012. Rare Chandeliers brought him some fame in the industry as it introduced his unique persona to a wide audience. Another of his mixtape was Blue Chip 2 that was released in 2013. Action Bronson released a cookbook of the same name as his show in 2017.

11. Lil Peep

Lil Peep came up as an extremely talented singer full of potential. His work in the emo and alternative rock genre brought a lot of changes and made it more popular and desirable in the audience. Suffering from mental health issues, he created some of the best music of his time like Crybaby, Hellboy, Come Over When You’re Sober (Pt 1&2). Like most hip-hop artists, Lil Peep too, couldn’t make amends with his addiction and became a victim of substance abuse. He died due to a drug overdose at the age of 21.

12. Mike Shinoda

Mike Shinoda is best known for co-founding Linkin Park, one of the most popular Rock bands of our time. In 1996, he formed the band XERO which went on to be Linkin Park. Mike didn’t have much of a solo career outside of Linkin Park. As the rhythm guitarist, vocalist, and pianist, he was the second most important person after Chester Bennington. After Chester committed suicide in 2017, Mike released a solo album named Post Traumatic. He expressed his emotions in the aftermath of the shocking accident. After going on hiatus for 3 years, the band made its comeback in 2020.

13. Aesop Rock

Aesop Rock was a popular star from the ‘90s and early 2000s in the hip-hop genre. He released a bunch of rock albums over the years and is still very much active today. Although he didn’t achieve a lot, his songs touched the people who were into underground and alternative hip-hop. Aesop has released a total of eight albums, with the last one Spirit World Field Guide releasing in 2020. Besides doing solo, he is also attached to music groups like The Weatherman, Hail Mary Mallon, The Uncluded, etc. Aesop’s 2007 album None Shall Pass is one of his most popular works.

Post Malone is one of the most popular rappers and hip-hop singers of our time. Gaining spotlight from the very beginning, his albums have attained groundbreaking success both commercially and critically. Post’s first album Stoney set the record for staying the longest time on the Billboard Hip-hop album chart with 77 weeks. His second album secured the top spot on Billboard 200, so did his third album Hollywood’s Bleeding. With 10 Billboard Awards and 6 Grammy nominations — Post Malone is undoubtedly a massive star in the industry.

15. House of Pain

House of Pain was a big name in the ‘90s. Having released some international successes, they become one of the most popular hip-hop groups of white singers. They released a total of three albums, House of Pain, Same as it Ever Was, Truth Crushed to Earth Shall Rise Again. Their lead Everlast left the band for a solo career and the band dismantled. However, they reunited in 2010. In 2017, the group toured in the US to celebrate their silver jubilee.

16. Rittz

If you’re not much into hip-hop, this name might sound a bit unfamiliar to you but hip-hop fans should recognize it. Rittz came to fame with the release of Yelawolf’s single “Box Chevy”. After the initial success, he and his counterpart collaborated multiple times. Yelawolf and Rittz toured together in 2012 as well. Rittz’s famous mixtape White Jesus and the modified re-released version White Jesus: Revival both brought him under the spotlight in the early 2010s. He has so far released seven albums, some of them being moderately successful, he has contributed a lot to the hip-hop community.

Benjamin Goldberg aka Token is a rapper famous for his songs released on YouTube. He has been singing from childhood and got his YT channel tokenhiphop setup at the age of 14. Since then, Token has been constantly releasing his music on the Channel. He has close to a million subscribers now, his highest viewed song is “YouTube Rapper” with 21M+ views.

18. NF

NF is a rising star in the rap game. He started his career way back in 2012 with his EP I’m Free. But success wasn’t instant for him, it took him five years and four albums to get noticed by the public and the critics. His album Perception opened on top of the Billboard 200 in 2017. Two years went by and NF came up with another chart-topping album named The Search. He released his latest mixtape Clouds in 2021. This rap gem has so far got a couple of Dove Awards, but the time isn’t too far to get to the larger stages.

19. R.A. The Rugged Man

R.A. The Rugged Man is a heck of a character. Having started rapping from a very young age, he has done a lot of things other than singing. R.A. worked as a boxing commentator, film critic, film producer, writer, etc. He started his singing career at the age of 18 but for some issues, his first album never got released. After working for several rappers, he finally released his first album in 2013, at the age of 39. The album Die, Rugged Man, Die was a moderate success. So was the next one. R.A. released his third album in 2020 All My Heroes Are Dead.

20. El-P

EL-P is one of those guys who likes to grow with other people. Not only is he an authority figure in the underground hip-hop genre, but he is also responsible for promoting singers like Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, etc. EL-P runs a record label named Definitive Jux as well. He has released four studio albums of his own, each of them being a huge success to the listeners of underground hip-hop. His albums include Run the Jewels, Run the Jewels 2, Run the Jewels 3, and RTJ4.
